Sanyo releases this new compact cool looking HD camcorder which increases performance with a new processor. Toshiba releases this new DVD player with Cell processor based HD upscaling technology. In this video I wonder though why Toshiba doesn’t at least support playback of HD video formats such as DivX HD, H264 HD and WMV HD. Since a single layer DVD can hold a 2 hour 720p movie in those formats and a dual layer DVD can hold 2 hours at 1080p in those formats. Toshiba, I think, should also build an Ethernet port into their players to support up to HD quality video-on-demand services. This past few days, my video of the HiVision miniNote http://techvideoblog.com/ifa/98-linux-laptop-the-hivision-mininote/ has been seen by over 100 thousand people thanks to links from Slashdot, Gizmodo and Digg. But at IFA 2008, I actually saw a Laptop by Menq International Ltd called the EasyPC E760 that was advertised as being even cheaper at only $89 per laptop. It runs on a Samsung ARM processor, has a 7″ 480×272 resolution screen and runs Windows CE with some customized browser, word processing, Skype and media player. JVC is launching some super slim LCD TV LT42DS9, the Sophisti Design Audio DVD System, showcasing the upcoming 4K2K technologies using 4K2K video cameras, 4K2K LCD TVs and 4K2K projectors. Those 4K2K technology demos were one of the IFA highlights in my opinion. The quality is totally amazing, it is showing about 10 million pixels per frame, basically that is 10 megapixel video. Sure 10 megapixel video requires really high bandwidth, but with advanced H264 encoding, a 10 megapixel 4K2K video can fit in 50mbit/s, and 50mbit/s can be delivered over Fiberoptical Internet connections and probably that you would be able to fit a 4K2K stream on a Blu-ray disc which has a 48mbit/s bandwidth limit. At that bitrate, a 2 hour 4K2K movie could fit on about 43GB, so it can perfectly well fit on a dual-layer 50GB Blu-ray disc. Considering small and cheap processors that can decode 1080p, which amounts to about 2 megapixel, have been available for at least a couple of years, according to Moore’s law, the next generation processor to embed in affordable 4K2K televisions, just need to be 5 time more powerful then 1080p hardware. Which amounts to about 4 years of technological development after the introduction of 1080p as the mass market standard. Which according to my guessing could mean we would all be able to buy 4K2K LCD TVs and 4K2K projectors within the next couple of years at mass market consumer prices. That is of course if the broadcasters and movie industry let us have that kind of quality at home. Cause 4K2K technology might also be a differentiator that digital cinemas would want to have for themselves. Just when you thought 1080p was the best one would need, just wait till you see a 4K2K demonstration, the quality is just insane, it’s even more like really being there. It enables you to stream live video from your TV, through an Archos TV+, 605 WiFi or 705 WiFi, through the Internet or on your local network, to another Archos 605 WiFi, 705 WiFi, or on any Windows Mobile smartphone (later there may also be support for Symbian) or on a laptop or PC. This is basically the Archos way to do the Slingbox, AMD Live or Sony TV Anywhere feature. Hold da kæft hvorvar der mange mennesker på Rådhuspladsen til koncerten. Her filmer jeg alle folk fra bus stoppestedet på Østerbro som holder Martin plakater og hele vejen igennem det store publikum hvor det var svært at masse sig igennem tæt pakket publikunm på hele Rådhuspladsen og som overflød på alle vejene omkring rådhuspladsen. Det var kun lidt ærgeligt at have sådan et fedt setup og sådan stort publikum og at koncerten kun varede 20 minutter, afbrudt af Lise Rønne, Remee, jingles, spørgsmål igen og igen om hvordan det er at stå forand så stort et publikum. Det havde måske værret federe at lade sangerne styrre underholdningen selv hver deres 4 sange i træk og det er nok lidt plat hvis de skal synge de samme sange på fredag. Der burde have værret plads til at de kunne performe nogle ekstra nummere selvom det måske var lidt koldt lidt over frysepunktet specielt for de mange børn som var mødt op.

Greenpeace is pointing their fingers at big IT industry manufacturers and distributors for not caring about the environment. They are also warning people that most so called old recycled computers are actually instead sent to some underdevelopped parts of asia and africa where slaves are melting motherboards and PC circuits with their bare hands to extract the little materials and metals they can that have any resale value on the black markets. So do not believe all those that want to export containers filled with your old computers to give to people in the third world. In some cases 75% of the old computers are unusable, they consume more power then there is available and thus the scheme is only using the charity as a means to escape and illegally monetize electronic waste. The USA doesn’t even have a policy to prevent electronic waste traffic. Hundreds of tons of electronic waste is shipped from the USA every year to be dumped and processed by slaves in the third world. Current PC components in most computers other then the OLPC have toxic chemicals in them that harm those poor people that melt them and that pollute the water and the ground where it is dumped. Sony is bringing to the market their first HD video-conferencing solution called the Ipela next month. It's very expensive and targetted to the enterprise, but it's really cool and probably one of the highest quality HD video-conferencing solutions out there with the LifeSize and Talk and Vision solutions. I asked the Sony representative when it would become possible to do HD video-conferencing using the Sony PS3 and probably something like a cheap sub-100-dollar 720p or 1080p webcam, but he didn't have any exclusive informations to give about such consumer oriented HD video-conferencing solution yet. HD video-conferencing is totally awesome, the next best thing to being there with the other person. Aigo are presenting a MID design that they are going to launch when the MIDs are ready to be launched. The design of this MID looks a bit like the ones from Gigabyte and Compal. Totally awesome, the best screens in the world. Quad HD is completely insane quality. I heard from some CMO engineers once that the difference in manufacturing price from 720p to 1080p screens was about 20 dollars two years ago, what would the price difference be between a 1080p and a 2160p quad-HD screen? Perhaps is it just a different chip in there? So what if there isn't any quad-HD content yet, that the bitrate required for quad-HD is four times the bitrate required for 1080p, getting a 8 megapixel digital still camera is cheap and once you see the 8 megapixel digital pictures on a quad HD screen, actually any picture taken that's over 2 megapixel will thus show it's full detail on a quad-HD screen for up to 8 megapixels. So imagine streaming some up-to-8megapixel slideshows, displaying 8MP scanns of paintings. Quad-HD is cool. The OLED screen was good to. Bouchons, pollution et urgence climatique Dans le canton de Genève, le trafic automobile a doublé depuis 25 ans. D’ici 2020, une augmentation de 70% est prévue… si nous n’entreprenons rien avant. Conséquence de cette évolution : toujours plus de bouchons, de bruit, d’atteintes à la santé et de gaz à effet de serre. Il devient urgent de prendre des mesures pour renverser la progression du trafic motorisé privé et de dynamiser sérieusement les transports en commun.

Pour une ville dynamique et conviviale. Aussi longtemps que la mobilité d’un habitant sera confondue avec la mobilité de son véhicule construit pour déplacer 5 passagers et 300 kg de bagages, les nuisances s’intensifieront. Une ville dynamique et conviviale se doit de penser la mobilité en terme de déplacement des personnes et non des voitures. Pourtant aujourd’hui, les citoyens automobilistes ne sont pas encouragés à utiliser les transports publics. Ils paient déjà pour les frais fixes de leur voiture : impôt, assurance, vignette, etc. Utiliser les TPG, pour eux, signifie payer deux fois pour se déplacer : les frais de leur véhicule privé, ainsi que le billet TPG. Résultat, les transports en commun n’attirent pas les actuels automobilistes.
