An aircrew from Air Station San Francisco flew to Monterey Airport where they picked up three members of the society and transported them to the facility, where the Ventana members put the condors in animal carriers and loaded them into the helicopter. The crew made two flights to Monterey, moving five condors and two members on the first flight, and three birds and the remaining person on the second flight.

The buoy marks the spot where the ship carrying Francis Scott Key, the author of the Star Spangled Banner, was anchored during the bombardment of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. Each year the buoy is set in the spring marking the location of the event and then removed in the fall. A small ceremony was held on the Rankin where the history of the Star Spangled banner was told, the anthem was played and the Fort McHenry Guard issued a gun salute.

The MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Kodiak flew over a group of 20 snowmobilers waving. "We noticed someone waving his jacket and signaling us with both arms. We came to a hover at approximately 1,000 feet on the mountainside." said Lt. William Friday, the pilot of the helicopter.

Petty Officer 2nd class Obrien Hollow was lowered from the helicopter to the snow-covered mountainside, which had an incline of 30 degrees. After assessing the victim, Hollow called for a rescue litter to be lowered. The victim, reportedly suffering from back injuries suffered during a snowmobile jump, was hoisted to the helicopter and transferred to an awaiting ambulance.

The condition of the victim is unknown.
