KODIAK, Alaska - Crewmen aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Kodiak assist the crew of the fishing vessel Vigilant to rescue two weathered Israeli kayakers July 30, 2009. The aircrew located the two men after a search near Gore Point about 40 miles southeast of Homer. The men were on a trip from Seward to Homer and had been kayaking for eight days. Weather worsened and they became tired and lost some gear prompting them to use their emergency locator beacon and contact the Coast Guard. The kayakers remained aboard the fishing vessel Vigilant and will be taken to Homer in the next 48 hours.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Three injured Indian crewmen arrived safely in Anchorage at about 7 p.m. Monday after Coast Guard rescue crews flew more than 1800 combined miles to conduct their medical evacuation from a chemical oil tanker 200 miles South of Adak Island, Alaska. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and HC-130 Hercules airplane flew from Air Station Kodiak to Adak Sunday while the vessel headed north to close the distance the aircraft would be required to fly offshore. "The hoists were conducted 200 miles offshore," said Lt. Cmdr. M. Scott Jackson, aircraft commander MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter. "We were at the limits of our range based on fuel requirements. The original plan was to conduct it 80 miles offshore, but the weather conditions prevented the vessel from closing the distance as quickly as we had hoped."

The Coast Guard responded to a fire onboard the fishing vessel Master Ryan 10-miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas, Dec. 6, 2008. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call from the lift boat A.J. Burios around 9 a.m. reporting the fire and that three people were onboard the shrimp boat. The Coast Guard dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter, a 47-foot motor life boat and the Coast Guard Cutter Manowar to assist.

Crew members on the Coast Guard Cutter Sherman conducted several law enforcement boardings of commercial fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during the month of November. Boarding team members operate in Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats and board vessels to prevent violations of U.S. law. The maritime law enforcement boardings consist of inspecting fishing licenses and permits, the fishing vessel's crew proficiency in emergency alarms and drills, keeping of logbooks and inspecting safety and fire fighting equipment. The Coast Guard Cutter Sherman is one of 12 High Endurance Cutters and are home ported in Alameda, Calif. The Sherman is on a 2-month Alaska patrol supporting search and rescue missions and maritime law enforcement throughout the waters off Alaska.

A Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter crew rescues four people from a disabled sailboat more than 300 miles southeast of New Jersey, Friday, Oct. 31, 2008. Watchstanders at the Rescue Coordination Center in Portsmouth received a satellite telephone call from the crew of the High Flyer, a 36-foot trimaran, Thursday night, requesting assistance after their vessel's sails and rudder became disabled. The helicopter crew and an HC-130J Hercules airplane crew were dispatched to the vessels location. While en route the helicopter crew made a short refueling stop aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Spencer, before continuing to the disabled vessel. The helicopter crew arrived at the vessels location at approximately 8:45 a.m. Friday and hoisted the crew of the High Flyer.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Coast Guard received notification over VHF-Channel 16 radio at 5:48 a.m. Saturday that two hunters were stranded on Montague Island in Prince William Sound. One of the two men had suffered an injury to his leg during a fall and was unable to walk. Both men believed they were close to hypothermia as they were in wet clothes and unable to start a fire. Initially the Coast Guard directed the case but control of the case was turned over to the Anchorage Rescue Coordination Center (RCC). A Kodiak-based MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew rescued both hunters and delivered one to his father on the beach near their camp. The injured man was delivered in stable condition to Providence Anchorage Hospital.

CAPE MAY, N.J. - The Coast Guard rescued two people Sunday who were aboard a 72-foot boat adrift 14 miles off the coast here. Rescued was Colin Clement and John Livingston. The Coast Guard received a call at 4:06 p.m. from a crewmember aboard the Robert E. Hayes reporting they were disabled and adrift. A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May and a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene. The aircrew hoisted Clement and Livingston aboard their helicopter and transported them to Air Station Atlantic City.
