The SongTrellis Excerpt Service allows visitors to the SongTrellis site to excerpt and customize the musical scores stored there (chord progression scores, harmony examples and subscriber composed music) for their own practice, study or composition work. When an excerpt is made, the service prepares a downloadable MIDI sequence and printable score for it in a second or two.

The chord progression scores on the site are in the public domain, since many different compositions can be built on top of any particular chord sequence. The sequences presented do not quote arrangement details from any copyrighted work. The chord voicings used are generated by algorithm.

This video demonstrates how to create new excerpts, how to change their tempo, how to prepare excerpted scores for transposed instruments, and how to transpose an excerpt to a new key.

Currently, Playlist Central postings can only be submitted from within a standalone Rhapsody application, which must be downloaded and run on a Windows computer.

Published playlists show up nearly instantly in the Rhapsody application's Playlist Central listings. Unfortunately, it can take longer than a week for a new Playlist to show up in the listings on the Rhapsody website.

This video demonstrates that its possible to run the Windows Rhapsody application within a Windows virtual machine running on a Mac, and shows how this can be used to publish a Playlist to Playlist Central.

We also demonstrate how to publish a Rhapsody playlist to the Playlists department of the SongTrellis website. The Playlists department instantly indexes new submissions, and creates a page that provides a link to launch and display a published Playlist.

This video demos that process.

Once you've created a playlist, you almost always decide that you would like tracks to be presented in a different order after you start to listen to it. The second portion of the video demos how to edit a Playlist so that tracks may be reordered within it.

Once your list is perfected, you may wish to publish it so others can see it. See the "Publicize Your Rhapsody Playlist" video to see how that works.

It is easy to create playlists that perform music on the Rhapsody and Mog websites. Both sites provide features to publish user playlists so others can find them, but they are hard to discover and are hard to find via web searches. It is also hard to create text which describes what a user's playlists are meant to do.

The SongTrellis Playlist department is a central location where links to new playlists can be submitted with full documentation. SongTrellis Playlist pages are quickly indexed by web crawlers, so that they can be easily discovered via web searches.
