Shameless self promoters we are. Gotta get the word out, let the people know we're out there. How do we do that? Well, in this case that's accomplished by, uh, handing out stickers and goodies to the prostitutes in Amsterdam's red light district. (They're not gonna teach you about this in any marketing class kids.) It all started innocently enough. (well, innocent by our standards...) It went downhill in a hurry as we began to draw a crowd and the ire of some of the locals. And yes, Ted E was indeed threatened by a loaded dildo as he stuffed stickers in a mail slot. And no, they don't like cameras. Yeah, we're goofballs. Blame the coffee. Here you'll find some outtakes from that little adventure. Enjoy.

Known almost as much for his eclectic taste in music as he is for his numerous, multi-genre productions and remixes, Philadelphia producer and DJ King Britt credits the success of his own hip-hop, house, soul, acid jazz, and electric pop creations to his genuine love of all things musical. Producing and remixing since 1990 while attending Temple University, he met Ishmael Butler (aka Butterfly), who introduced Britt to his jazz-rap group Digable Planets. Acquiring the nickname Silkworm, Britt toured with the group as their DJ for more than two years. After rocking it with the DP’s Britt took a turn to pursue his visionary retro funk band Sylk 130. Releasing two albums as Sylk 130, and gaining an international hit with his remake of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life, Britt firmly established himself as a leading player in the dance industry.

We recently sat down with guitarist Fletcher Dragge from the SoCal punk band Pennywise before a gig in Canada. Fletcher gets into the politics of Pennywise, the fans, and the rest of the world in a typically thoughtful, well spoken interview. Late night drinkers are outed, pining drummers exposed, and hats were thrown, sans Duck goals*. Formed in 1988 by Lindberg, Dragge, McMackin and original bassist Jason Thirsk, Pennywise aligned with Epitaph Records in time for their heralded, eponymous 1991 disc. In defiance of grunge, the disc helped to define the then-emerging West Coast punk movement. Astoundingly, 1993's Unknown Road sold a few hundred thousand copies and – rather typically – at the height of the punk resurgence of 1994 the major labels came calling. But the four-piece elected to stay put and released another Epitaph smash with ‘95’s About Time. When the tragic death of Thirsk the next year put the future of the collective in serious doubt, they rallied and regrouped with new bassist Randy Bradbury for Full Circle. *Pennywise song Bro Hymn is the official goal scored song for the National Hockey League's Anaheim Ducks. (Something those of us in NY dont need to hear come playoff time.)

When clubbers discuss who is the hottest rising talent in house music in the last 3 years one name keeps reappearing; that name is Nic Fanciulli. Nic is a young, fresh DJ, producer and re mixer. He started in music at 16, where he worked in the local record shop and spun in the local bars in his hometown of Maidstone, Kent. It was here that he earned his first proper break courtesy of the town’s house institution Club Class. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Jay Malinowski, bassist Eon Sinclair and drummer Pat Pengelly. They released their debut album, Root Fire 2001 with former djembe player Brett Dunlop, and Sounding a Mosiac in 2004 with the current lineup. The band is set to release their follow up record 'Street Gospels' in 2007. During the recording of Sounding a Mosaic Bedouin Soundclash formed a close bond with producer Darryl Jenifer, of Bad Brains, who they continue to work with today. Despite drastic differences in sound, Bedouin Soundclash and D Jenifer are set to release a collaborative Bad Brains vs. Bedouin Soundclash mash-up later in 2007. We caught up with Eon and Jay at Osheaga in Montreal to find out what they're up to.

Continuing the cinematic theme the album features the 36 piece Seattle Orchestra known for their work on many big Hollywood movies. The summer of 2006 saw them continuing their global live and DJ dates in Australia, USA, Asia and the top festivals across Europe and the UK. The duo return to the US every month for their East Coast residency for Liquified at 1150 in Atlanta and the West Coast residency at Avalon in Hollywood. While in Canada at the Osheaga Festival, we had the opportunity to chat with Joseph Arthur. Joseph is no stranger to heaps of praise in the music press, and it's not unusual to read comparisons to legends like Bob Dylan and John Lennon in descriptions of his work. That being said, Joseph is a New Yorker (by way of Ohio). So as is usually the case, when we wind up finding our NYC based friends out of state, things get a little crazy. Crazy like talking about Karl Wallinger from World Party, only to have him magically appear and briefly hijack the interview (in a most polite way). Lots of fun.

Experiencing Mr. Vs (AKA Victor Font) DJ sets, original productions, or remixes is like taking a trip back in time to dance music's golden age. Before superstar DJs took over the spotlight, dance music was a cultural phenomenon that did what no other form of music could do – bring people together. It didn't matter what race or sexual orientation you came from because dance music was all about embracing our differences and creating a homogeneous vibe. The music was built heavily on traditional song structures and lots of heart and soul. DJs played whatever it took to get the party going and the music was never predictable. It is with this classic spirit and enthusiasm that New York City's Mr. V targets today's dance music world. Mr. V is a throwback in the purest sense.

Ted E caught up with Argentina native DJ Hernan Cattaneo backstage at Exit Festival in Serbia. In 1987 a friend of Hernan's visited Vinylmania in New York City and brought back a sweet taste of Chicago house in the form of Traxx and DJ International pressings, which featured artists like Frankie Knuckles, Derrick May and Inner City. "They blew my mind," exclaims Hernan. "I loved them because they combined the energy of Europe's electronic music - bands like Depeche Mode and New Order - with the soul of American music. After that, everything changed for me." Christopher Wicks, owner and designer of English Laundry, was born a child of the sixties in Manchester, England. His childhood pastime of sketching shirts, shoes, and guitars became a life-long career in designing men’s and women’s apparel. At 22 years old, Chris designed men’s formal shirts for one of England’s largest gentlemen’s shirt manufacturers. He went on to design for such sportswear brands as LA Gear, Ocean Pacific and Hang Ten. Now under his company banner Defiance USA and his online e-commerce company Global Rebels Inc., Wicks designs and manufactures all the clothing for: Fender, Jimi Hendrix “The Experience”: A Clothing Collection, Davinci Shirts, and English Laundry, the jewel in the Defiance Crown. The English Laundry and English Rose designs reflect his upbringing in the UK. You will see references to his home town of Manchester as well as English influences – Mods, Rocker’s, and of course Soccer.
