Our first assignment was to do a test of f-stop settings. The result was this film. My then roommate Travis helped me out with the assignment. It first began as a test of lenses and then a narrative developed. I must have been watching a lot of Dario Argento films at the time. The most interesting thing about this film is that there are no out-of-camera cuts. All the shots you see are one take one reel.

The result was this film. My then roommate Travis helped me out with the assignment. It first began as a test of lenses and then a narrative developed. I must have been watching a lot of Dario Argento films at the time. The most interesting thing about this film is that there are no out-of-camera cuts. All the shots you see are one take one reel.</media:text>

We begin outside my dorm, turn a right at Folsom Stadium, make a left on 28th street, go down until we make a stop at the Video Station (the best video store I've ever been to).

The class was taught by Don Yannacito (who makes an appearance in Matt Stone and Trey Parker's first film Cannibal: The Musical). Then they started you off on 8 millimeter film, and you had to work your way up from there. One of our first assignments was to make a film loop. The objective was to experiment with shape, form and movement inside the film frame. I decided to juxtapose horizontal movement and vertical lines. My second film assignment is also included. It is composed of mainly found footage and scratches on black leader film. It was what I could assemble when much of one assignment came back all black. I name the film Invisible Kid because the editing rhythm syncs with the Metallica song of the same name.

I took a class on directing and acting. The final assignment for the class was to make a mock-umentary. I had trouble communicating with the other students as I do with all people. I would often bring my brand new DV camera to the class, not to record the proceedings but simply to look at things through a viewfinder. One day when recording certain scenes I happened to be recording.

During this segment there happened to be a group of protesters protesting abortion. The crew decided to incorporate said protest in the film assignment. The actors got in character and the crew recorded the confrontation.

Rated for some language and graphic images depicted by the protesters.

At the time I was photographing a series of still images of his room. I was going to incorporate the footage into an animation project, the project was never finished. That same day he told me that he was joining the Marines. My brand new DV camera in hand, I began recording our conversation.

Matt was meeting his uncle at the Pearl Street Mall, a beautiful open air mall. We discuss the notion of just action in regards to Afghanistan while passing by the Boulder Court House. The area made for plenty of serendipitous occurrences that made for good film moments.

My second film assignment is also included. It is composed of mainly found footage and scratches on black leader film. It was what I could assemble when much of one assignment came back all black. I name the film Invisible Kid because the editing rhythm syncs with the Metallica song of the same name.</media:text>

My first year attending the University of Colorado, Boulder, I a single course on film production.
