I've always had a soft-spot for "found object mods": those creations that blend seamlessly into everyday objects such as toasters, stereo components, stuffed animals and toys. While at a LAN party in Texas last year, I first caught a glimpse of the Boblbee hard-shell backpack. These sleek, Swedish-made backpacks are lightweight and ergonomic, and have inspired me to create my first found object mod. The small size of the backpack would lend itself to the many hours of planning and engineering on my part. I wanted only the very best gaming hardware to be included in this project if it was to have any serious respect at LAN parties and frag-fests. After all, this was no laptop PC: It was a portable gaming desktop! I first created a custom insert from polystyrene plastic with an aluminum frame to hold all the hardware components.
