The point is to create an interesting, open sound without using full chords, picking non-adjacent strings. You can often hear this style in African music, and of course you can put it in any kind of genre you desire to play. The key is to memorize the shapes on the fretboard and the fingers you find comfortable to pick with, and of course, to keep a steady time when you're at tempo.
I had a faster and a slower run for both camera angles. Enjoy!

I tried to jump all over the fretboard and used different fingerings of the same chords to make it sound more colourful - and hopefully a bit more complicated - than it really is. This little example proves again that you can "sell" just about anything with a steady time, keeping up a fluid groove.

I use simple chord shapes again, the aim is to have a nice groove going on, making the bassline and the rhythm part come apart nicely. Play the bass line with the thumb, and the skank rhythm with the index and middle fingers. I played both the fretting hand and the picking hand views slowly first, then played them a bit more uptempo.

The melody I played here is just an example; you can create just about anything over those three chords - I- IV-V; - A-D-E - with only using those three open strings as bass notes. Don't be afraid to embellish the melody with hammer-ons and pull-offs. Notice the effectiveness of simple two and three note voicings.
