If the land is damp they start around 4 pm, a little bit and move into full 'sound' after dark. The El Yunque rainforest is managed by the U S Forest Service who maintain an excellent myriad of trails and facilities. The copious rain forms many series of waterfalls on its' way back down to the sea. The water is clean and cool and lovely to jump into on a hot day. It was once a popular local destination with its' bath house, but is now closed for swimming by the present Forest Service Administration. One can appreciate how much of a treasure it once was to the people of Puerto Rico, when everyone could enjoy it. Refreshing, cool, in fact the water would make you numb!
