You may have heard about someones trip to Costa Rica and they did a zip line through the trees? Well not all of us can get to Costa Rica anytime soon, but do not fear we have some pretty amazing zip lines in the US. Paragon Adventure tours took me to a great zip line in St. George, Utah. The scenery was outstanding and our guide Todd, owner of Paragon was a pretty funny guy keeping the mood light so no one would get to nervous as we walked to the first launch point. This was a daytrip that I will never forget. We took a short drive out to Jean, Nevada. This is the little town that you see as your driving to Vegas from California. All you see are a couple of casino hotels right in the middle o the desert with nothing around them, not even houses. It kind of makes you wonder who in the heck thought this would be a good place for hotels. Well they are just outside of Vegas and it seems that a lot of people like to stay there because the rooms are cheaper and since its so close it make sense. Well, I found that the best part of Jean, Nevada was not the cheap hotels but the best skydiving in Vegas. If you have never jumped but have always wanted to try, going tandem is the best. I had a really great instructor named Troy who has made over 1000 jumps. In fact he got married not to long ago and his ceremony included the two of them skydiving to the alter. Only about an hour south of Vegas in a little town widely known for its legalized prostitution are a few little gems that are a must on your sightseeing tour. The Pahrump Valley Winery is definitely one of them. With its cute little vineyard out front and its weeping willow tress everywhere, it gives you a feeling that you are not in the middle of the desert, but closer to Napa Valley. The owners have recently updated the place by adding a wine tasting area, shop, and a great five star restaurant, Symphonys. I had a wonderful time visiting with the owners, Bill and Gretchen, a super friendly couple who make all of their guests feel right at home. We drank, and drank, and drank some more. I had a opportunity to go out into the vineyard and learn about the grapes and do a little grooming of the vines We then went back to the enormous barrel room where I got to do a little private wine tasting straight from the barrel, and then ahhhh dinner and desert. The "Getaway Girl", Roni Taylor goes cayoneering for the first time in Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah. This was a secret canyon that the outfitters, Zion Adventure Company, found and because of that it was beautifully maintained and nearly untouched. We had to hike a pretty long way through Snake Alley to get to the launch point. We did two repels down the side of a beautiful slick rock canyon and then had to "crab walk" through tight slot canyons to get to the next repel. I was unsure of my willingness to put my life in the hands of an outfitter but realized it was even more unnerving to trust my own strength to get myself through the slot canyons. The "Getaway Girl", Roni Taylor goes ATV riding in one of the most beautiful places on earth. You would think you were in the middle of the Moab desert. The red rock formations gave it away showing that this was Utah at it's finest. We went side winding up the sand hills and were able to fly on those bad boys. The kids were able to ride along in a really cool covered Rhino that was still able to take the crazy hills and turns, yet kept them safe with a great view. What a fun trip for the whole gang!

The "Getaway Girl", Roni Taylor needs a little down time from all of the adventure every once in a while, so a night at Alibaba's Lebanese Restaurant was a welcome adventure. With hand painted murals, live piano player, and cozy seating this place this place made you want to stay all evening and wait for the Hookah to come out after 10pm. We had a wonderful show by an unbelievable limber bellydancer. She made me get up to dance with her which was a little unnerving. I am a former dancer myself, but the way she moved would make Shakira look like her hips ARE lying. I could swear she has had a pelvis realignment or something. The food was amazing as it was brought out tapas style. If you don't know what that is, it's when the food is served as appetizers....but lots of them. We all ate from the some plates which was alot of fun and different for a change. At the end of the evening we sat back and smoked a apple infused hookah pipe.
