Barackula is a short political horror rock musical about young Barack Obama havingto stave off a secret society of vampires at Harvard when he was inducted into presidency at the Harvard Law Review in 1990. Obama(Justin Sherman) finds that he must convince the vampire society that opposing political philosophies can coexist or else the society may transform Obama to the dark side. Reminiscent to Michael Jackson’s Thriller and a slight infusion of Jesus Christ Superstar, the film solely depicts Obama’s strengths, merits and genuineness while being quietly respectful towards the other presidential candidates. This short musical is highly entertaining with dancing Harvard student vampires, fantastic choreography by Victor Tang and Sherman’s physical likeness to Obama is remarkable. Shot on the new RED ONE camera, the quality of the film itself is stunning. Produced by Justin Sherman,Gavin Leighton, Brooke Shirey and Mike Lawson

Ken Navarro: I am going to be playing at an event that’s sponsored by the contemporary jazz station, WLOQ. I’ve had a very, very long and nice relationship with that station that dates back all the way to 1992. I think the very first show I ever did in Orlando was an event that they put on, so I’ve been just doing things with them…I’ve lost track of how many different events that I’ve done that have been either put on by WLOQ or sponsored by them or happen because of their endorsement.

It was my distinct pleasure to be able to sit down with “Sharkwater” director Rob Stewart and his PR guru, Tyler, at a not- quiet- as- I’d- hoped bistro in the Thornton Park section of Orlando. Stewart, 27, has done some amazing things in his still young life, including becoming a trained biologist, skilled diver, world renowned underwater photographer/videographer and now, filmmaker. It is telling that his single-minded focus on saving the world shark population is already having positive results across the planet. In a nutshell: A psychiatrist becomes caught up in an alien epidemic and struggles to protect her son from those that have been infected and collectivized. Tagline for this film (thanks, IMDB)... Do not trust anyone. Do not show emotion. Do not fall asleep. In terms of trusting anyone involved in the making of this snooze-fest (besides Daniel Craig), never again. Showing emotion? Not a problem, as the movie gives the viewer little to no reason to react to anything in it. Ah, not falling asleep... that's a toughie. Even with some obvious "Hey, wake up!!!" scenes cobbled on, this thing makes a better sedative than warm milk and barbiturates.

Director Paul Greengrass ("United 93" "The Bourne Supremacy") gets up close (some would say too close) and personal once again to all sorts of bashing, smashing and crashing action in this third and supposedly last of the incredibly successful Bourne series of thrillers. As threequels go this summer, this one ranks as the best, but only by default. The only problem is that this picture was supposed to answer all the questions posed by the enigma that is sometimes sensitive snuffer Bourne. In this critic’s estimation, it only partially pays off, in terms of revealing all...

In the coming film "The Seeker: The Dark is Rising," a teenage boy travels through time, collecting the six different signs that will help him save the world. To market the movie, family-friendly film studio Fox Walden is sending viewers on a hunt for the same signs, hidden in the movie's advertising and marketing. Fox Walden hid images of the six signs -- colorful talisman-like symbols -- in everything from movie trailers to billboards to the cardboard cutouts displayed in movie theaters. When users plug in the signs on the movie's Web site in a specific order, they get access to content such as behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the movie's cast and crew. The hunt for symbols in real-life marketing materials "mirrors the story of the movie," says Jeffrey Godsick, president of marketing for Fox Walden. But instead of saving the world, Fox Walden wants to engage consumers, getting them interested in the film months before it hits theaters in October. Between late July and the movie's opening, the studio will insert 25 different combinations of the signs into its marketing, which lead to 25 different pieces of content on the Web site. Movie studios once used to concentrate their marketing on TV ad campaigns, but as viewers increasingly use digital video recorders to avoid ads, studios -- as with other marketers -- are trying an array of additional marketing techniques. In recent years, some studios have put resources into buzz marketing, efforts aimed at sparking interest about a movie among demographic groups seen as potential fans. Adding impetus to these moves is pressure on studios to land the biggest audience possible on a film's opening weekend, given movie theaters' tendency nowadays to drop a film if it doesn't fill theaters immediately.

In a nutshell: A no-nonsense chef in an elite NYC restaurant is forced to open up when she must take care of her orphaned niece. Chick flicks are like any other genre of film, and there are conventions that define said genre that are expected. When watching a Western, we expect lots of galloping on horseback, and gunplay. Film Noir is stereotyped by desperate chases down rain-slicked alleyways, and femme fatales, Sci-Fi by robots and spaceships, and so on. Chick flicks must, absolutely must, have the "meet-cute" scene between a man and woman who really don’t seem to get along very well - until they eventually, inevitably fall in love, that is. Our film sticks to this time-honored convention like a hollandaise sauce on a delicately poached filet and is everything one expects it to be, with a garnish of something special to plus the experience. There is a lot of tasty stuff here, to be certain...

In a nutshell: A dysfunctional family must cope with the quarantine of their hometown under a huge dome. "I can’t believe we’re paying for something we get for free on TV!" So says Homer Simpson (voice of Dan Castellaneta) near the start of our picture, after watching a typical, wildly over-the-top with violence "Itchy and Scratchy" animated film in his local movie house. This is what many might be saying midway through "The Simpsons Movie" once the firm impression sets in that this film is nothing more, or blessedly nothing less, than a pretty good "Simpsons" episode stretched out to feature length. A feeling that resonates throughout the piece is one of predictability, and this, inevitably, comes from the fact that the show has been on the air for 18 seasons. What the heck else could they possibly do with the characters and concepts inherent to the micro-universe of Springfield spawned in Matt Groening’s head so many moons ago, but supersize the thing to big screen format and add a touch of CG here and there. Everything else of note has already been there and been done like that... To state too much of the plot would, in fact, ruin a number of the jokes that arise from typically skewed "Simpsons" situations, so the following, cursory summation will have to suffice... Homer, after befriending a pig (Spider-Pig, AKA Harry Plopper), dumps a silo full of the animal’s waste into a local lake. This irresponsible act on Mr. Simpson’s part causes the EPA to literally descend on Springfield, sealing the town off from the rest of the world under an immense glass dome. Anarchy ensues (well, more anarchy than usual)... Somehow the Simpson family escapes, and goes north, to Alaska (where you can’t be too fat or too drunk), before returning to save their trapped friends and neighbors. Although it can be said in the case of many, many films, in this particular instance the plot is, in fact, almost completely arbitrary. What the TV show has always been, and the movie now is, is a bed for a series of rapid-fire pop culture references, satirical political statements and general wisenheimer behavior. Where are film veers off course (and with a running time of 87 minutes it scarcely has the chance to) is when the writers (eleven of ’em!) actually attempt to "flesh out" the relationships between cartoon characters, inserting drama where none is needed or desired. This critic’s last wish would have been to see a dejected, cursing Marge Simpson (Julie Kavner) finally decide to tell Homer that she was leaving him, and yet that is just what happens at one point. Bring back Spider-Pig (because he does whatever a Spider-Pig does...)! Please!

I've learned that plans are in the works for a new The Simpsons attraction at Universal Studios Florida. The 'toon ride will "probably" physically replace the recently closed Back To The Future ride there, I'm told. From the few facts I could glean, the new "travel with Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie" attraction will be announced sometime before Fox's The Simpsons movie release on July 27th, and perhaps as soon as this month. I hear the new ride's opening should be Summer 2008. I'm predicting The Simpsons' pic will be this summer's biggest non-sequel/prequel blockbuster at the box office. Then again, The Simpsons TV show is huge around the globe. I can't believe how everything connected with this new Simpsons attraction is very hush-hush. (Banter that there's a gallows at Uni studios if anybody dares talk about it.) I hear it will "probably" be situated in the area where the Back To The Future simulator ride used to be located at the Orlando theme park. Opened May 2, 1991, at Universal Studios Florida, the attraction soon migrated to Universal Studios in Hollywood, California and Osaka, Japan. It officially closed on March 30 of this year in Orlando. Press reports say the Hollywood ride will be shutting down in the summer of 2007, possibly before Labor Day. News reports say Universal Orlando Resort plans to spend as much as $120 million this year on the design and construction of new attractions, as well as on other capital improvements, to offset declining attendance. That's about three times what it spent in 2006 and about four times what it spent in 2005 for capital improvements, according to information contained in a report Universal Orlando's parent company filed this week with the SEC. The purpose is to better compete within the theme park industry.
