This is the road between Nouakchott en Senegal. The road is about 400 km long and that is about half of all roads in Mauritania in 2004.

I was lucky that they could repair the engine in Nouakchott after i had put wrong petrol in. The car is running ok again. This road is boring and in bad condition. You have to be careful not to break the car in big holes or hit an animal when they cross the road. I miss a camel in the last minute of this video.

I have put the complete movie online so you can get an impression what driving and racing in Mauritania is like. At the end of this road was the most scary place i went in Africa. In this village called Rosso i had to wait for the boat, but i was sure i would be robbed in the night so i chose to drive the unpaved road to Diama. There i was informed that i was 4 days ahead of the other competitors. I was the winner of the Amsterdam Dakar Challenge!

Marocco in the 2004 Amsterdam Dakar Challenge. I drive a
threewheeled Robin Reliant Interceptor. I need to find a more...
petrol station because i have no idea how much petrol is left
in the tank. I have no reserve petrol anymore. I dared not to
stop at a petrol station in Tetouan and Chefchaouen because i
was chased by police.

Between Ceuta (Sebta) and Tetouan i passed a speedtrap with
app 135 km/h where the speedlimit was 60. I saw a policecar
coming after me. (it was a Jeep Wrangler look-a-like. They
gave up just before the city of Tetouan.

You see some old mercedes W123's coming from the other side.
And some nice views with pinetrees and nice mountains. I had
to speed up and take ideal lines on the road because i was
still about 4 days behind.

I was happy that we had put the bigger (1100 cc, 70 hp) engine
in the back of the car for better weight distribution. The car
has only one front wheel. I could make turns at higher speeds
than in an original Robin.

Going from Amsterdam to Gambia in a three wheeled car. This part is shot with the webcam in Marocco between Ifni and Guelmim. Doing some Off Road riding in the Atlas Mountains. You hear the bumps and see what the road was like. This was not the road to take to Dakar, but it was fun. Just some test of what the car was capable off. The car did well on this road, tougher parts came later during the week in the Sahara.
