The DOS version looks very similar to others, but the FM Synth music isn't quite as attractive (not that it's bad) and the game is entirely intact with its fun and addictive play. This game was brought out on the SNES and Genesis also as "Soldiers of fortune" with the Preacher class censored to be the "Scientist".

Age of Empires 2 took many of the ideas of the first game, expanded on them and set the timeline forward by a few centuries(or a couple millenia) to the medieval ages. This game was so popular, it was ported from Windows to the Mac and sold pretty well (Apple fans love Microsoft games it seems). Either way, a great addition to the series that continues my coverage of the 10 best Real-time strategy series ever.

Baldur's Gate 2 was the sequel to the game that put Bioware on the map, Baldur's Gate. It expanded everything even further, from multiplayer, to the gameplay choices, to the story and even the entire engine was vastly improved, allowing you to set higher resolutions. One of the greatest RPGs of all time.

Interactive entertainment was a "CD Mag", a magazine published entirely on CD-rom with media such as voice, pictures and video as opposed to written words. It was ahead of its time and CD adoption was not yet at a high enough level to support them unfortunately. This ad is placed her posthumously and out of respect for the fallen publication.

Call to Power was an Unusual Civilization game in that it was created by Activision under liscence from Avalon Hill, whom owned the Civilization name. It plays a lot like Civilization 2, only with slightly different technologies and instead of ending at a certain year, it lets you research future technologies and continue on into space. It's the Oddball of the Civilization Series because it had nothing to do with the designers of the other Civ games.

When Xcom was released for the Playstation, Microprose took advantage of the storage space of the new medium and created new , custom Mpeg movies for use in the game. They did not decide to stay entirely with 2d art, but they did reuse the original game's art where they could and threw in new 3 dimensional characters wherever they were able to (as was the rage back then). This video explains the new videos and differences.

Star Lords is the previously unreleased (until 2001 when it was put out as Freeware) beta version of the original Master of Orion. This game is slightly unpolished but has many of the same features and functions as the full finished game. It is almost as addictive too (but a fair bit more unbalanced and difficult).

The introduction to Master of Magic. A cult classic that some claim inspired and others claim was inspired by Magic: The Gathering, others say it's like a Fantasy version of Civilization. Either way, it is a wonderful successor to the Strategy crown and definitely has the addictiveness of it's Orion and Civ forebears.

SMAC as it's known was Firaxis' first game once they split off from Microprose. It plays very similarly to Civilization but features futuristic techs, sci-fi based factions (and in the expansion, aliens), a new alien world with new terrain features. SMAC is considered one of Sid Meier's greatest games and people still will pay a lot for the now hard to find expansion (Alien Crossfire) on ebay. It's cult status and overall popularity has placed it in the top 10 strategy games of all time!

The expansion to Firaxis' first game (and thus their first expansion too). Alien Crossfire expanded the core gameplay but kept all of the addictiveness intact for a truly epic feel. Something borrowed from Sid's own Civilization series of games.

A slight change to the PC intro, the PSX version has the pre-rendered sequence animated and no longer has the useful backstory subtitles to tell people what is going on. Terror from the Deep is a great strategy game and sequel to one of my top 10 strategy games ever. (to be used in my overview page). This video is a lot less narrative but more cinematic than the DOS version's intro (which I also have uploaded).

The Playstation version of the famous intro is different, the sound effects are changed and the video and music itself are shortened, also because it's an mpeg there is a fair amount of artifacting that the real-time sprite-based intro of the PC version doesn't have. It is interesting to compare. Xcom is one of the top 10 strategy games of all time.

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword is the second official expansion pack of the critically-acclaimed turn-based strategy video game Civilization IV. The opening montage shown when you start a game of Civilization 1. This sequence is very famous and was even remade with Leonard Nimoy narrating it in Civilization 4. The music from that version is used to fill silence here. Civilization is without a doubt the most influential strategy game of all time, spawning multiple popular sequels, controversy over naming rights, infinite replayability no matter how dated it gets and a legacy of games each living up to the ultra addictiveness of the first. A recommended buy.

The sequel to Xcom: UFO Defense. Terror from the Deep (TFTD) on the surface is much like a skin change to UFO Defense. The game plays out the same way, equipment and enemies in TFTD are similar to the original, and all of the basic game mechanics are the same. However, the difficulty level has been substantially raised and there are a number of new features. This intro is a lot more descriptive and narrative than the PSX version. You can buy this game on Steam now!

This game is what started a huge multi-million selling franchise. It put Blizzard on the map as a truly notable game developer and brought popularity to the RTS genre. The game is set in the Kingdom of Azeroth, part of the fictional Warcraft universe. The events that take place in this game are known in Warcraft lore as the First War or the Great War. Once again, to highlight this series' presense among the greatest strategy games of all time! Civilization IV is a turn-based game in which the player builds an empire from very limited initial resources. All standard full-length games begin in 4000 BC with a settler who builds a single city. From there, the player expands an empire while contending with rival nations, using the geography, developing infrastructure, and encouraging scientific and cultural progress.

Also known as Gabriel Knight 2, this whole series of games had many twists that made it unique to the genre, from its dark occult themes to its memorable characters and gripping storyline. The storyline weaves together werewolf mythology and Bavarian history with sexual intrigue and businessmen's quest for their primal roots. The game's two lead characters are Gabriel Knight – the seemingly less-than-bright but smart-as-a-fox mystery writer and bookstore owner – and Grace Nakimura, his less-than-trusting assistant.

Another entry for my restrospective on the best strategy games ever. Civilization 3 changed how the game played, it set a fixed resolution unlike the previous 2 versions and used pre-rendered 3d characters and sprites. The game did however boast many changes that were later expanded upon in civ 4 and it also created many different new play modes. Overall, a worthy contender to the Civ crown.

Planescape: Torment is one of the most underrated RPGs of all time and many people acknowledge this, the game deserves to be recognized and this video will be embedded into my page of the top 10 RPGs of all time. Planescape: Torment places emphasis on conversation and storyline rather than combat. The protagonist, an immortal known only as "The Nameless One", has lived many lives, and forgotten them all. Most of the game centers on The Nameless One's journey throughout the city of Sigil and other planes to reclaim his memories of these previous lives.

The story takes place on the continent of Arcanum, which despite its initial fantasy setting has just started going through an industrial revolution. The story begins with the crash of the zeppelin IFS Zephyr, of which the protagonist is the only survivor, which leads him throughout the land in search of answers. The game employs an isometric perspective and features an open game world where the protagonist can travel unhindered. This video is to be used in my top 10 rpgs of all time page. It's an open-ended game by the developers of Fallout (go figure).

Age of Empires is a historical real-time strategy game by one of the co-creators of civilization. Developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft, the game uses the Genie, a 2D sprite based game engine. Captured from DOSBOX using the copy of the game I own (you can tell mine is authentic, it even has the sound effects that I had noticed people using pirated copies don't have). Xcom (or UFO in Europe) tells the story of an agency created by a collaboration between governments in reaction to a massive influx of Alien 'incidents'. You control the organization (Xcom), build bases, shoot down UFOs, investigate crash sites, protect cities from invasion (terror sites), and based on your performance, various governments will adjust your funding. You research captured alien technologies and use them against their masters until you find the cause of the onslaught and stop it for good. This game is on Steam now! The only thing better than that would be a Virtual Console release.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 was the sequel to the Award-winning Heroes of Might and Magic, and it eclipsed its predecessor in almost every single way to become one of the mose popular of the series by far. Not bad for a 13 year old game.

This trailer was distributed online and on CD-roms in various pc game publications throughout the mid-90's. Daggerfall is the second installment of the award winning Elder Scrolls series (and some would argue the best version). It featured doom-like graphics and a massive encompassing world the size of Britain. I'd highly recommend it myself, but you should see for yourself. It's a piece of PC gaming RPG history.

Chaos Overlords is an futuristic turn-based strategy game where you play as a crime lord in an orwellian future. It was released in 1996 by New World Computing and developed by Stick Man Games. Gamespot gave it a 9.2 and said "Chaos Overlords should overjoy anyone who likes turn-based strategy wargames. But if your health starts slipping from spending too much time in front of your monitor, please, please give it a rest…the game will still be there tomorrow."

The balls pose a suffocation hazard to children under three years of age. In December, a 13-month old girl reportedly suffocated when one-half of a Pokemon ball covered her nose and mouth. Official Desription: Using a number of old documentaries this film looks at how sixties youth counter-culture clashed with older people's values of 'moral decency'. Many of the clips are quite humourous in their sixties Cold War outlook, especially Sam Hardon ("History Professor, This University") whose paranoid views that "sixties radicals are controlled by communists" prompt the question "Is this guy on pot, or is he a Bush Republican?". Watch for the great Elisha Cook Jr,(he played Wilmer in the "Maltese Falcon") as the groveling homeowner. The eerie looking home used for the exterior shots is the Ennis Brown house in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1924. It was later used in the films "Blade Runner", "Black Rain", and "Rocketeer".

Since they can't talk to the authorities, the parents plan to begin the search for their daughter on their own. This is the original, British-made movie from 1934 and is now in the public domain. After coming to the United States, Alfred Hitchcock produced a remake of this movie in 1956 starring James (Jimmy) Stewart and Doris Day. The remake remains under copyright. David Bloor is possibly the last of the flowermakers, in a business unit on a North London industrial estate. Since the filming of this documentary he has sadly gone out of business.

While much of the focus on intellectual property goes to battles over copyright or patents, we should not forget that a large proportion of such material is not property at all. The public domain is available for all to use. Of particular interest for the public domain is the U.S. government, all of whose work is available without restriction for all of us to use. In this lecture, Carl Malamud explains the principles of the public domain with particular emphasis on the works of government. He will discuss how government often backs away from the clear principle of no property interests in order to maintain control, and how citizens can change that attitude through concrete actions. Malamud will use his own experience in forcing changes in government policy with numerous agencies to illustrate these general principles. Coincidentally, this 1 hour lecture is also released as Public domain. I am releasing it here to help enlighten others on the public domain
