Mike Buechele at 1115Media - I read a post over Cost Per News that Jason Calacanis is still referring to Affiliate Marketing as spam. Jason was the key note speaker at Affiliate Summit West last year, where he first mentioned Affiliate Marketing as spam, but did go on to say that the industry is filled with very smart people. For a few weeks after the conference it looked like Calacanis was starting to get it and would try out Affiliate Marketing on Mahalo. However, it looks like he’s sticking with Google for now. Now there are spammers out there that do use affiliate links in scrapped websites that add no value and waste our time. Those that are succeeding in Affiliate Marketing are building larger sites that add value to the user experience, and are also using a lot of back end tech to deliver products and services with affiliate links. Much like Mahalo could have been doing all this time. I really like Mahalo, not everything they have but most of it. The ironic part ...

Michael Buechele of 1115Media, NFL Friday Football Pick, Steelers over Cowboys.Huge game for both teams. Steelers are keeping pace to lock up the number 2 spot. Ben Roethlisberger has been so-so to bad lately, but it looks like a healthy Willie Parker and Bryant McFadden will be in the line up. They have the best defense in the league with one of the hardest hitting defensemen in Troy Polamalu. Dallas just had some victories over some really bad teams, 49ers and Seahawks, so this is going to be one heck of a wake up call. The Cowboys pretty much need to win the rest of their games, and Atlanta to lose one, to make the playoffs. TO does not go to the dance this year. Thanks to Shawn Collins at Affiliate Summit for the great jacket and polo shirt. Affiliate Summit West is coming up in Jan 11-13 in Vegas. I’m working with Affiliate Summit as a blogger for the event. Last time, my first in Boston, I spent most of the time networking and meeting so many merchants and networks that I have not been able to keep up with the demand. This time around, I’m spending much more time in the sessions and presentations, which I’ll blog about. More to come.

Hey everybody, Mike Buechele, 1115 Media and I'm still checking out the Dragon Naturally Speaking stuff and not too happy with it so far. But anyway, it’s Friday, NFL football picks Friday and I’m 4-5, so I suck. This week I’m going with the Miami Dolphins over the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks are not a good team, they’re not going to make the playoffs, I think Hasselbeck is not playing again this week, it’s Holfgrem’s last year there – it’s just not good with Seattle right now. Miami has been very surprising. I didn't think they’d be this good this early. Yes that wildcat offense they’re running has a lot to do with it but they also have a much improved defense with Joey Porter showing the world he’s not done yet. They also have a great running back in Ronnie Brown and Chad Pennington is a perfect QB to manage that offence. He’s currently has the highest quarterback rating in the AFC East, let’s ...

I couldn’t make it out tonight to see Gary Vaynerchuk speak but someone shared video. It turns out there was a snafu with who was supposed to pay the bar owners or something like that, so Gary, being the hustler he is, invites everyone outside and delivers a great keynote on social media and opportunity in the coming months. I recognize some people from Mashable and Affiliate Summit in the audience. For those that don’t know him, he’s build a 50 million dollar wine business and is an intuitive genius in video , social media, and internet marketing. I do disagree that advertisers just want eyeballs as he says. I’ve been inside advertising campaign war rooms and they are looking for a lot more. He does offer some good knowledge and motivation for anyone looking to get their brand out there.

Mike Buechele, www.1115media.com. I’m still working the headset microphone thing for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I wasn’t too impressed with it last time. I got an interesting letter in the mail and the return address is from the desk of Vinny Testaverde. Testaverde is a now former NFL quarterback; played for Tampa Bay, the Browns, Ravens, with the Jets, went to the Pats, with the Cowboys, ended with the Panthers I think. He’s from Long Island, where I live. So the letter begins, “Dear fellow Italian American.” Now just because my last name ends in a vowel it doesn’t mean that I’m Italian. I’m German and Spanish. So this is a mass market mailing FAIL! Does this count as another interception for him?

You’ll notice I’m wearing a microphone headset because I bought a software called Dragon NaturallySpeaking and the idea is as I do these videos I can get a transcription which I can just edit and then put on my blog. So my question today, I got from a great book called The Secret by Ken Blanchard (not the Oprah Winfrey book club one) I'm working on a book myself and I just hate it when you read something and you wish you wrote it. Anyway the question is, think of somebody who you admire, must be living and you’ve never met them, and you only have time for one question, what question would you ask?I think I would want to ask of Richard Branson, CEO and founder of Virgin, how do you know when it's time to quit? Operative is a former employer of mine. An amazing amount of thanks to all the X-Operatives that came out last Friday. Ive been running 11|15 for about a year now. Its been surprising and a fantastic experience thats just getting better. I had two goals; build brand and build revenue. My brand grew much faster than I expected and has lead to opportunities I didnt see a year ago, like speaking and consulting. My point is, if youre starting a small online business, you have the advantage of being nimble and can take advantage of opportunities that you didnt see coming. Have a great weekend!

Affiliate Summit in Boston last week was the best conference Ive attended in any industry. The people were friendly, the expo was great, and the drinks were free. I talk a little about the Social Media bus, Stephanie Agresta, the Market Leverage crew, a little overview of the expo, and I finish with Gary Vaynerchuk explaining the scar on his head.
