This is the first I’ve read of this title and I got it because it was a really light week and I saw the X-Force on the cover. The quick review is that cable has been on the run through the time stream for two years now with the first mutant child born after the House of M saga. Bishop, the X-man’s one time ally from the future has come back to kill the child. This was pretty good book. If you are interested to get in this is a good issue to do it. It seems to be the beginning of a story and the story is not far enough advanced that you can’t get caught up. The idea that this story is based on is solid and makes for an interesting world. Vampirism is legal and werewolves and all sorts of other supernatural creatures are living amongst us. Anita Blake is an Animator which means she can raise the dead. Apparently she makes a pretty good living at it and helps out the cops as a vampire hunter during her down time. So far this story is building a lot of mystery. It reads like one of those cop shows where we’ve got a crime scene, that is unbelievably gory and a little creepy, a job offer that Anita won’t take on moral issues and a bride’s maid’s dress. I understand that the Nightwing title has to keep moving but it would have been cool to see how he was captured and a little bit more of that story in his individual title. This title is coming off a pretty strong arch and so I gave it another try. Unfortunately the things that made the last arch great didn't carry over into this one. The team aspect is not there in this story and it is focusing on two relatively boring characters. I mean seriously Animal Man and Vixen. Anansi is a great villain I just wish he were up against a higher caliber of heroes. DC did a great job of making D list villains cool but it hasn't really had the same effect with the heroes. Everyone deserves their shot at a starring role in a book like the JLA but not everyone can carry it. This book is a bit of a regroup issue for the team and doesn’t have the same level of action that we’ve seen in the first 6 but it is still just as good. There is an exciting development with Angel and how it seams that when he is threatened he now reverts back to Arch Angel until he calms down again. First off this kind of gives him a place on this team of living weapons, and it makes him a serious wild card out in the field. The best moment in this book was when Wolverine was yelling at Cyclops and holding him by the shirt and if you look at his hands you can see his claws barely poking out of his hands and little trickles of blood streaming down from them. Bombshell’s in a tough situation and I feel for her but the Sean McKeever doesn’t give the readers a chance to connect with her. And, he doesn’t give the Titans a chance to be compassionate towards her and try to help. There’s too much punching and not enough story to back it up. This book just went from weird to ridiculous. Not only do we have ape versions of the marvel heroes, but now some of them are vampires that want to invade our universe to drink our blood. I mean come on. This book inspired the biggest groan and rolling of the eyes that I have ever experienced in reading comics. The only thing that I did like about this book is when Gibbon was talking with the ape version of Speedball and he was asking about his human self. Gibbon couldnt bring himself to tell him about how he killed 600 kids and started the civil war and is probably the most hated hero in the Marvel U. Wow this was a good issue. So this issue has been going back to give us insight on what the Skrulls are doing and how they managed to do it. This issue tells us where it all began. It starts out with an illuminati meeting skrull made clones, which makes me wonder if any of the illuminati series was actually the earth heroes or if it was just clones, and one of the Skrulls realized that Reed Richards alone held the key to the humans destruction. This makes a couple of things very clear. One, why the skrulls kept Reed alive after capturing him and why they needed to get into his brain so badly in the last issue of the Secret Invasion Title. They had the formula but didnt truly understand it. It also explains why he was able to figure out how they were disguising themselves and make the weapon that revealed them. ...

You know the Flash is such a tough character because its so hard to present him with a realistic threat. His ability to move as fast as he does means that he should be able to stop the crime, capture the bad guy, ad save all the bystanders before the villain can even blink. Geoff Johns has been the only writer in recent history to be able to do it well and this is not a Geoff Johns book. Alan Burnett does at least have the sense to make the challenge more about the powers themselves than the bad guys but the story is a little tired. The aging thing through the speed force. He is covering the entire city, taking on the gangs and trying to find Batman. Fabian Nicieza is really doing a good job of capturing the essence of the Robin character. Its been a long time since anyone has but he really gets this character. The best part of the book was when Robin and Nightwing crossed paths in the Bat Cave and Tim was like need help with the two face thing and Dick says nope need help with the gangs and Tim said nope. It showed continuity as well as how much Tim has grown in that he can handle the city by himself. I still havent figured out what Stephanies role is in all of this and why she wants Tim dead, if that really is Stephanie in the Spoiler costume. Beast Boy and Raven had a little heart to heart and so did Nightwing and Starfire. The most exciting thing in this issue was Starfire climbing out of the pool. Ravens demonic side has been unleashed by her brothers and they took her away with them so in the next issue its Titans to the rescue. Youve got to wonder if the Titans will ever start to resent Raven. I know it is something that is constantly on Ravens mind but seriously half of their adventures are dealing with Ravens family. It is just such a fun read and written so well. I am a sucker for nostalgia when it is fun and playful and this book is really doing it for me. Soundwave was always my favorite Disepticon as a kid because he had they cool voice and all the little henchmen and he was a tape recorder. The least menacing transformation ever but he was one of the meanest dudes out there. In this book not only is he badass but his little henchmen are too. They are set loose on New York and wreak some serious havoc on the city. One of them, the little dude Frenzy, takes out the entire military force assembled by himself. Superboy Prime is a great villain and Im glad hes getting another shot. How hes brought into the story is really funny, with him going to the Superman museum and a hologram Jimmy Olsen telling him how insignificant he was. We know thats what really gets him riled up so the results arent that surprising. The parallel between Superman and his effect on the members of the Legion of Superheroes and Superboy Prime and how he inspired the Legion of Villains is really interesting. It provides the perfect home for Superboy Prime. He finally has people that acknowledge and revere him for his beliefs and want to follow him. On the flip side the legion provides the perfect object for his hatred loving everything he despises. The real payoff happens at the end of the book when the three different versions of the Legion ...

The fight in this issue picks up right where the last left off and really keeps it coming. The choice that the artist made to represent Amazo was really cool. How his costume changes depending on whose power he is using at the time. I just wonder where the fishnets were when he was casting magic. Speaking of magic Zatanna really showed her stuff during this fight and demonstrated what a valuable member of the team she really is. The end is a little cheesy when everyone is back together and happy again and Batman gets stuck with the clean up duty resulting in a hearty chuckle but I really liked this story arch and the action that it brought. If you havent been reading the title dont worry the handy dandy summary conveniently placed at the beginning of each book will get you caught up to where you need to be. There is some good action here but this issue is mostly a set up of whats to come. As a dark character going up against even darker men, there aught to be some really good action and story to follow. I dont know where Ive been on this title the last few months. I had dropped of the book and picked this one up by sheer accident. I mean it, I got home and looked in my bag and couldnt remember how this got in here. Well, it was fate because this issue was awesome. I got caught up with the summary, so if youre afraid of jumping in dont be theres plenty of info in there, and took right to the story. The action was great, and I love the new suits the team has. This is a really well done book that keeps you excited and actually inspires a little cheer at the end with the image that we are let with. This is a really fun book to read and a shame to miss out on. Im so glad it crawled into my stack and I got to enjoy it. Go check it out and maybe even go look for the back issues, I know I will. This is one of the spin off minis, and while Im usually not into the extras I got this one because we rarely get to see the Inhumans in a featured role and they are an interesting people. The method of story telling in this book is fantastic. By focusing on Karnak, whose ability it is to sense weakness, it also showcases the strength of the Inhumans. Their greatest strength is their family and the faltering of that bond is their greatest weakness. This of course plays right into the Skrulls attack which is to create mistrust and doubt so their attack strikes deep when they find that the greatest of all, Blackbolt was a Skrull. At the end of this issue all hell brakes loose as the Skrulls reveal themselves in a full on frontal assault so you know there is some great action to come. The fate of Blackbolt ...

There are a couple of attempts on the womans life and some daring rescues that all make for great action and some sweet panels. She is testifying, Harvey tells us, against a quote un quote powerful individual and could destabilize some people who would rather remain stable, but we dont know who. What Im waiting for, is this guy to be Two Face. It plays perfectly into his duality and the stories we usually witness. Robin is telling us when he dropped the boy wonder title and became his own man. He developed the new suit, became a bit darker and started to develop intimidation as one of his weapons. It takes place on the day of the invasion. It follows the character of the crusader who is a skrull that has chosen to betray his people and live his life as a human. It is an interesting back story for the character and a pretty compelling look at the decision of where to put his loyalty but like most of the Secret Invasion tie ins it is pretty insignificant. They also make it look in the end of the book that the earthlings are starting to win the fight when we know from the other books that the opposite was true and Nick Fury had to show up and get a bunch of people out of there to regroup. The only cross over that Ive found to be worth while and really necessary to the story is the New Avengers book because it actually has a unique story that is moving forward. I did enjoy the Run Aways/Young Avengers ...

The brave and the bold is a collection of one shot team ups with the major DC characters. They are good reads on light days and when they involve your favorite characters. This issue, written by Mark Waid and drawn by Scott Kolins follows and adventure with Nightwing and Hawkman. This was a really entertaining story. As someone who loves the character of Nightwing it was cool to see not only his position with the other heroes in the DCU but also his brilliance for strategy and leadership. Hawkman wasnt really involved much other that antique consultant and letting Nightwing borrow his flying device. We got a bonus in this issue also with some good green arrow and dead man action as well. Again this issue was a really good read but if theyre not characters that youre into then you can do without this title.

So the Mighty Avengers book has taken on the duty of showing us how each of the avengers was replaced by a skrull. Weve seen Sue Richards story, Jessica Drews, and now they show are showing us how Elektra was killed. This is the best one that Ive seen yet. Electra put up an amazing fight. She took three super powered Skrulls down before they could take her out and there are some great action sequences. I didnt think the art was a very fitting tribute to send Electra off for her second and possibly final time. The art made her look like an old woman instead of the sexy, deadly warrior she is. The artist also doesnt do a great job of catching the characteristics of the characters. I mean if it wasnt for the costumes you wouldnt be able to tell who they were. Next issue is Hank Pym. Im starting to get a little impatient with this story. I love the story but I would like it to start moving again.
