The best video gets an original signed drawing from "Nagymama: A True Story!"

In this day and age, people blog every time they change their freaking nail polish!!! But a lot of people forget to capture the more important things in life...like stories from your older relatives. They have probably lived through the stock market crash, countless wars, and "The Good Old Days." So, next time they ask you, "How was school today?" ask them, "How was school for YOU...yesterday?"

Sound clip from John Williams's "Theme from 'Jaws'" (MCA Records).

Film Clip from Bill Plympton's "How to Kiss".

Gestation Sensation

Check out http://www.shinygrape.com for more fun stuff!
____

Backstory: Gestation Sensation explores a male seahorse's discomfort during pregnancy. The film was traditionally animated (with a pencil & paper!) and then composited with After FX at the Philadelphia University of the Arts for my junior thesis project. This entire film was created in about three weeks because I had to scrap the original idea due to..err..."Copyright Issues."

Believe it or not, at the beginning of the semester, I began production on a film called "Fabian Fish", a tale about a clownfish and a yellow tang trying to escape from a fishbowl (but the clownfish keeps forgetting "the plan" every few seconds.) Sound familiar? Yeah.

A month before the due date, my professor played the teaser for "Finding Nemo." I thought someone was playing a VERY expensive joke on me!!!

I was basically in mid-production of the freakin "Dentists Office" scene in that movie - annoying pig-tailed, brace-faced girl and all! What the HECK are the odds of that? So, I created Gestation Sensation and prayed that there wouldn't be a scene in Finding Nemo of a seahorse exploding into a cloud of babies! (It didn't happen! I'm still safe!)

Thank you to my family who, despite not quite understanding the whole "filmmaking thing," has a good sense-of-humor and deals with me!

Thank you to Cameraman Matt ( http://www.cinevore.com ) for his assistance with capturing our family events on film .

Okay, maybe it isn't an age old question. Basically, I was letting my cousin's Erika's son play with my video camera while my other cousin gave Erika's husband a lesson in Hungarian - "szorít" (to tighten, to constrain) vs. szólit (call) . This is mostly just a silly home movie, but I thought some bilingual people would get a kick out of it.

I shot some of this footage as reference for reference for the Nagymama animation and she said some cute stuff :) I apologize for the grainyness - I shot this before I knew how to adjust the capture settings on my camera and the original raw footage is long gone. Ever share a room with your brother or sister? Try sharing your bedroom with your 93-year-old, overprotective, hard-of-hearing, snoring, Transylvanian grandmother who ties you into bed and checks to make sure you are breathing every hour, on the hour. And you thought YOU had it bad!

Visit http://www.shinygrape.com for even more American Goulash stories!

Thank you to my family who, despite not quite understanding the whole "filmmaking thing," has a good sense-of-humor and deals with me!

Thank you to Cameraman Matt ( http://www.cinevore.com ) for his assistance with capturing our family events on film (and braving our "little castle," as my mom likes to call it.)

Songs used:

J.S. Bach: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor

Elvis Presley: "Jail House Rock"

Mannheim Steamroller: X-Files Theme Song (more)

This is an example of a typical visit to my family's house - stressful at times, but pretty fun! In this clip, you'll meet my mom and have a short tour of the front of my quaint little one-bedroom former place of residence. Sound simple and uneventful? Hardly.

Please keep in mind, my family is pretty unusual - I reserve the right to poke fun of them, just like they poke fun of me [all the freakin' time] - but remember, they are MY FAMILY, so please don't be mean. Don't mess wit' mah mommah! :oP
