My first competition in a complete set of Muay Chaiya rules. The rival was my own senior, Chaan. At the first duration of 90 seconds, we started the boxing just to demonstrate to the Muay Chaiya’s styles of hurling, pressing, grabbing, and breaking. After that, we were in a real competition, and Chann defeated me by pressing his elbow on the bottom of my breastbone . His next rival was Mr. Samingwayu who was finally grabbed and broken by Chaan either. However, if it were possible, we would like the audience to see that Muay Chaiya boxers can do those styles of fighting on ground. This style had been removed since 80 years ago when Muay Kaad Chuek was forbidden. But if it had not, then there might have been many of Muay Thai boxers on the ring of UFC or MMA. We usually have this test of boxing skills in Wai Kru ceremony or in level-passing exams, so I’m thinking that I’ll get my revenge next year

Mae Mai Gon (Principle of main techniques). The principle, or main techniques are the lethal and decisive techniques of aggression that have been carefully laid out. That is why Muay Chaiya is able to branch out to different sub-techniques without end. Chok Manao ( Punching lemons). The defensive aspect of Pahuyuth training is the Pong-Pad-Pid-Perd (to block, to swipe to cover, to open). Teachers would hang lemons at about neck high. The students would have to hit the lemons with their fists, elbows and defend themselves with the defensive techniques. The students would have to be able to strike, block, attack, defend, and move in the master gesture with great agility. This training technique is considered to be most ingenious method by teachers of the old that has passed on to younger generations of Muay Chaiya practitioners.

Tae Ton Kloey (Kicking banana trees). Kicking banana tress is one of the training techniques conceived by teachers of the old. It is to develop kicking skill. There are two ways of training by this method; kick with full power, will develop power, toughening the shins, and to maintain the sharp edge of the shins. Kicking to keep the tree trunk remain in the up right position - stand a banana tree trunk vertical to the ground and kick with either leg and keep the tree trunk remain standing up. This type of training develops speed, reflex, and correct body position.

Sok Chaiya (Chaiya’s elbow). In Chaiya style of fighting, elbows are short weapons designed to be used at close range. They are the dexterous weapons of Muay Chaiya. The elbows would be moving back and forth, up and down close to the face, making the face well covered and at the same time, allow the fighter to be able to launch his own attack with great power and speed. It is difficult to attack a skillful Muay Chaiya fighter, because the fighting stances and movements of Muay Chaiya always prescript elbows to be close and move to cover his entire body. They are like a durian fruit (a tropical fruit with hard and spiky skin). One can sustain injury unto oneself by hitting the spiky durian fruit.
