Wow! So this is here! A film worth watching. Harry Hoyt took full seven years to finish this film. This is the film in which back projection was first employed successfully by the director for a single scene. The Lost Word is also famous as the first in-flight movie which was shown during a scheduled Imperial Airways flight from London to the Continent in April 1925. And may I add here that Mr. Bull Montana who appeared as an ape-man used to undergo a marathon make-up job every time he had to shoot for this film. He used to sit for more than 4 hours for his make-up.

His boss is a very Edward G. Robinson looking character who receives all of the items he steals. When Superman is going after the pseudo-Superman up on a rooftop, the way he moves reminds me of the giant robots from the movie "Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow" (a really wonderful film worth seeing). If you take a look at the Superman cartoon "Mechanical Monsters" available on this website, you'll notice those same robots in it along with a somewhat similar story. I wonder if "Mechanical Monsters" was the inspiration for "Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow"?

It is the last out of the twelve films made while he was under contract for the Mutual Film Corportation. Chaplin plays an escaped convict on the run from prison guards. It starred Charlie Chaplin, Edna Purviance and Leo White. This film was not an official Chaplin film, even thought it has many Chaplin directed scenes. The film was produced and edited by Essanay Films, with Leo White as director for new scenes. The actual film was created from left over film stock Essanay Films had in their collection. Since Chaplin did not own the copyright during his time with Essanay, he had no control over its release. It was made up from left over scenes from Police and from an unfinished Chaplin film called Life. Leo White filled in the rest.
